Spain’s tourism board in London has U-turned on its suggestion about unvaccinated Britons being able to visit the country.

The board had advised that Spain would be open to all UK travelers, including the unvaccinated, without any restrictions given that passengers underwent a negative pre-departure test.

However, just hours later, the board said that this was a “mistake” based on an incorrect reading of Spain’s rules.
The board’s deputy director labeled the announcement as “miscommunication,” which came from a “misinterpretation of the rules” mentioned in a Spanish health department bulletin.

As per the Deputy Director of the Spanish tourist board in the UK Pedro Medina, “We apologize unreservedly for the miscommunication earlier today which was due to a misunderstanding of the new entry requirements.”

The tourist office said, “If more than 270 days have passed since the final dose, certification of a booster vaccination is also required, except for teenagers aged 12 to 17 inclusive.”

Spain extended its Covid entry requirements until the end of the month, dampening Easter holiday plans of tourists from Britain. It was thought that the rules would be dismissed to promote tourism.

Only fully vaccinated Britons or those who can provide proof of recovery from Covid can enter Spain until April 30.Those who have been vaccinated must be able to prove that they are fully vaccinated against Covid within the last 270 days.

If anyone has received their second dose more than nine months before, they must have had a booster dose to be allowed entry. However, teenagers do not need to be vaccinated for entering Spain.

Anyone who’s allowed into Spain will still need to wear masks indoors.
