The Destination Challenge project in Kerala to start on 8th June

The Destination Challenge project that has been prepared by the Kerala Tourism Department with the aim of developing at least one tourist spot within the bounds of all the local bodies in Kerala will start on the 8th of June.


M.V. Govindan, who is theMinister for Local Self Governments,would carry forward the state-level launching of the project in collaboration with the local self-government department in the capital of the state. The decision for inaugurating this project was taken at a meeting that wasjoined by the Kerala Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyasalong with Mr. Govindan.


The project envisionsimproving 100 unmapped destinations into popular tourist spotswithin a year. The LSGD will be providing all support that are required for theproject, opined Mr. Govindanduring the meeting.


The Kerala tourism department will bear 60% of the budgetfor each project. The balance funds would be met by the relevant local bodies via plan grants, complemented by own funds or otherreserves. The Kerala state government has already approvedRs. 50 crorefor improving these untapped spots for all incoming tourists.


The thorough project report for each destination should be collated and submitted onlineby the local bodies together with the estimate. Profits from the project zone can be completelydemanded by the local bodies. This sumwould be used for the upkeep of the destination.
