Destinations throughout the world are seeing significant progresses in sustainable tourism, with appropriate proof and analytics serving as important tools for change with the sector’s recovery happening gradually.


Assembling in Madrid, the UNWTO’s International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO) greeted visions from more than 150 specialists, aiming on important subjects including the change toward a circular economy and decreasing food waste in tourism.


The global set-up of INSTO Observatories is pioneering and applying, repeatedly for the first time, catalytic doings intended for assisting the tourism sector execute sustainable development at the destination level. Together, they are leading the renovation of tourism by depending on the ideologies of hands-on methods involving all stakeholders to guarantee a comprehensive and strong tourism growth.


The Observatories are a great way for guiding and supplement this change and confirm evidence-based decision-making.


Zurab Pololikashvili, the UNWTO Secretary-General said that to make sure that the tourism sector has a sustainable change, its growth must be looked upon as a means to attain the overall richness of a local community and the immediate environment instead of an objective in itself.
