Foreign tourist arrival reached 50% of pre-pandemic level

This year, arrivals in terms of international tourists till August have reached almost 50% of the numbers during the corresponding period in 2019, as per the information of the government with officials emphasizing that so far, the revival has been on the expected lines.


According to the statistics given by the ministry of tourism, in 2022, a total of 3,263,219 tourist arrivals from abroad have been recorded this year till August of this year. This is 47.2% of the 6,914,987 travelers from foreign countries who visited the country in the corresponding period in 2019.


The data regarding month-wise revival suggests that as the FTAs in 2022 January were 18.1% of the corresponding figures in 2019, in July, it had raised to 78.3% of the pre-pandemic year numbers. In Aug, the figure stood at 62.2% with 498,243 arrivals as compared to 800,837 in the corresponding month in 2019.


The tourism secretary, Arvind Singh, said that in Europe, there is an ongoing war and fares of international air travel are high. Under this situation, the numbers in terms of upturn are as expected. On the basis of current booking trends, India should reach the levels of pre-Covid times in international arrivals by 2023.


Almost, 201,546 FTAs in January 2022 were recorded in the country and during the first month of 2019, the figure was 18.1% of the 1,111,040 foreign travelers. In the same way, February witnessed 240,896 FTAs, March 342,308, April 392,930, May 423,701, June 522,737, and July recorded 640,858 FTAs.
