Wizz Air has issued an urgent UK travel warning amid reports that more than 135,000 UK adult passports are due to expire this month. Thousands of British families are set to descend on the UK during the October half-term break. Wizz Air warns travellers to take time to check their passport details and destination requirements in advance to avoid any unexpected delays, last minute problems or complications when departing for their holidays.

Information secured by the airline through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to HM Passport Office reveals that 135,006 British adult passports will expire in October 2026. A further 125,405 passports are due to expire in November, followed by 106,768 in December. Together, these figures indicate that 367,179 adult passports will reach their expiry dates during the final three months of 2026.

As families and holidaymakers prepare for their autumn getaways, Wizz Air is encouraging passengers to review their travel documents well before their scheduled departure. The airline has highlighted the importance of checking passport expiry dates, verifying personal information and understanding the entry requirements of individual destinations. Taking these precautions early can help travellers avoid unexpected difficulties at airports or immigration checkpoints.

The reminder is particularly relevant for passengers travelling to European destinations, where passport validity requirements may extend beyond the intended return date. Travellers are therefore advised to confirm the rules that apply to their destination and allow sufficient time to renew their passports if necessary.

The advisory coincides with Wizz Air’s continued expansion at London Luton Airport, where the airline is preparing to introduce new year-round services to three Spanish destinations: Málaga, Granada and Asturias, beginning in late October 2026. These additional connections will provide British travellers with more opportunities to explore Spain throughout the year.

The forthcoming routes will complement Wizz Air’s existing Spanish services from London Luton, including Barcelona, Bilbao and Seville, further strengthening the airport’s connections with popular Spanish leisure destinations.

With the October half-term travel period approaching, the airline is reminding passengers that checking passport validity in advance is a simple but essential step towards ensuring a smoother holiday experience.

Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, said: “Nobody wants to arrive at the airport ready for their half term holiday only to discover there’s a problem with their passport.

“With more than 135,000 adult passports expiring this month alone, we’re encouraging anyone planning to travel to dig theirs out now and make sure everything is in order. Check your passport, check the entry requirements for where you’re going and get it sorted early if you need to.

“And it’s not just half term. More than 367,000 adult passports are due to expire before the end of the year, so if you’re already thinking about a Christmas getaway, it’s worth checking now rather than leaving it until December.”
