A major step towards the arrival of Hero of the Seas has been completed after its enormous glass AquaDome was lifted into position at Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland. The installation has brought Royal Caribbean closer to launching its fourth Icon-class vessel from PortMiami in August 2027, where seven-night Caribbean and Bahamas voyages will be offered. Measuring 25 metres high and 50 metres wide, the structure has been identified as the largest single-piece glass-and-steel feature ever lifted onto a ship. Beneath the dome, an aquatic theatre, restaurants, bars and lounges will be housed, creating a weather-protected holiday district with panoramic sea views. Through this milestone, Miami cruise tourism and visitor movement across Mexico, Honduras, St. Maarten and the Bahamas are expected to be strengthened, while family travel experiences are set to be expanded through entertainment, dining and resort-style attractions aboard the 250,800-ton ship during its highly anticipated inaugural season ahead.

AquaDome Is Being Shaped as a Complete Holiday District

Far more than an architectural decoration will be provided by the AquaDome. A major entertainment, dining and relaxation district will be created beneath the sweeping glass structure.

An aquatic theatre will be housed inside the complex. High-energy water-based productions are expected to be presented in a protected environment, where performances can be enjoyed without being heavily affected by changing weather conditions.

Restaurants, bars and lounges will also be accommodated throughout the area. As a result, the AquaDome will be transformed at different points of the day. Panoramic ocean views will be offered during daylight hours, while a more theatrical atmosphere will be created after sunset.

For travellers, greater flexibility will be provided by this indoor setting. Meals, drinks, performances and ocean views will be experienced in one connected neighbourhood. A traditional cruise theatre will therefore not simply be recreated. Instead, several holiday experiences will be combined beneath one dramatic roof.

The area is also expected to become one of the most photographed spaces aboard Hero of the Seas. A strong visual identity will be provided by its curved glass exterior, while a direct connection with the surrounding sea will be maintained from inside.

Miami Will Be Positioned at the Centre of the Launch

Following delivery, Hero of the Seas will be based at PortMiami. Seven-night cruises will be operated across the Caribbean and the Bahamas during the maiden season.

Destinations such as Cozumel in Mexico, Philipsburg in St. Maarten and Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas will be included across the planned itineraries. Western Caribbean voyages will also be offered with calls at Puerto Costa Maya in Mexico and Roatan in Honduras.

Through these itineraries, travellers will be connected with beaches, marine environments, island cultures and historic coastal communities. Days at sea will be placed between several port visits, allowing the ship itself to be experienced as an important part of the holiday.

Additional pre-cruise and post-cruise stays are likely to be encouraged in Miami. Hotels, restaurants, transport providers and visitor attractions may therefore be supported by the vessel’s year-round passenger movement.

Cruise tourism across Mexico, Honduras, St. Maarten and the Bahamas could also be strengthened. Shore excursions, local guides, restaurants, beach operators and port businesses are expected to be reached by passengers arriving aboard the ship.

Family Holidays Will Be Given a Larger Platform

A strong family-travel focus has been built into Hero of the Seas. Nine pools will be provided, representing the highest number offered aboard a Royal Caribbean ship.

Coconut Cove will be introduced as a new pool area near The Lime and the Coconut. An expanded Swim & Tonic swim-up bar will be available, while additional water features will be provided for younger guests at Splashaway Bay.

Category 6 will be returned as one of the largest waterparks at sea. Two new family raft slides will be introduced alongside the first funnel raft slide at sea. Updated experiences will also be delivered through the Storm Chasers mat-racing slides.

Crown’s Edge will be offered 154 feet above the sea as a combined skywalk and zip-line attraction. The FlowRider Surf Simulator, Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, Lost Dunes mini-golf course and sports courts will also be provided.

Through this range, activities will be distributed across different age groups. Shared experiences will be supported, while separate areas will be made available for adults, children and multigenerational families.

New Accommodation Will Support Multigenerational Travel

Family accommodation will be expanded through the Ultimate Family Treehouse. Three levels will be incorporated into the suite, and a rooftop terrace, private whirlpool and two-deck teen space will be provided.

Two main bedrooms will be included, with a private bathroom and balcony being attached to each. Through this layout, shared family time and personal space will both be supported.

The three-level Ultimate Family Townhouse will also be offered with direct access to Surfside. Surfside Family Suites and Family Infinite Ocean View Balconies will provide further choices for groups travelling with children.

By combining these accommodation categories with entertainment, pools and dining, a self-contained resort experience will be created at sea. The vessel will consequently be positioned not only as transport between destinations, but as a major attraction within the wider Caribbean journey.

A Construction Milestone Will Carry Wider Tourism Importance

The placement of the AquaDome has signalled that Hero of the Seas is advancing towards its scheduled arrival. For the shipyard, a complex engineering operation has been completed. For Royal Caribbean, another Icon-class holiday platform has been brought closer to service.

For travellers, the milestone has offered an early view of the experiences being prepared for 2027. Sweeping sea views, indoor aquatic performances, extensive dining and family attractions will be gathered beneath and around the newly installed structure.

Once PortMiami operations are started, new visitor flows will be directed through Florida and across Caribbean destinations. A wide network of hotels, ports, excursion providers and local tourism businesses is expected to be connected with those journeys.

The glass dome has therefore been installed as more than a construction component. A visible symbol of Royal Caribbean’s continued cruise expansion has been created, while the next major chapter in Miami-based family travel has been moved firmly into view.
