“The idea is to show all what means Peru in this event,” Montero said, adding that the country’s tourism strength comes from its diversity, traditions and people.
The event aims to help visitors and travel professionals discover the depth of Peru’s tourism offering. Instead of focusing only on established destinations, the platform introduces different regions and their unique attractions.
Montero explained that one of the biggest developments this year has been the increased participation of Peru’s regions. More destinations have joined the event, allowing local representatives to present their traditions, products and tourism opportunities.
“This is the first year that we have so many regions part of this event, and this is amazing,” she said.

Regional Destinations Bring New Stories To Peru Tourism
One of the key messages from Montero’s interview was the importance of showcasing Peru’s regional diversity. She explained that every destination offers different experiences, making it difficult to select only one favourite place.
“Peru is everything. It is a beautiful place to visit,” Montero said when discussing the challenge of choosing one destination experience.
While Cusco and Machu Picchu remain globally recognised, Montero highlighted several other destinations that demonstrate Peru’s wider tourism potential.
She mentioned Arequipa, known as the “White City”, as a destination with impressive architecture, history and cultural attractions. She also described Ayacucho as a surprising discovery, highlighting its historic churches and cultural importance.
“I had the opportunity to visit Ayacucho and I was impressed. I said, oh my God, this is beautiful, I can’t believe it,” Montero explained.

According to Montero, Ayacucho offers remarkable heritage experiences, including its collection of more than 30 churches, each with distinctive characteristics.
She also highlighted Cajamarca and Chachapoyas as destinations with growing tourism potential. Chachapoyas particularly impressed her because of its tourism development, natural attractions and historical sites.
“Chachapoyas for me was a big surprise because they have already implemented a lot of things for tourism,” she said.
The region offers experiences including Gocta waterfall, the Kuelap archaeological site and the cable car system that improves visitor access.
Montero explained that while Kuelap is different from Machu Picchu, it provides another important archaeological experience and represents Peru’s wider heritage diversity.

Communities Become A Central Part Of Peru Tourism Promotion
A major change highlighted during the interview was the stronger presence of local communities at Peru Travel Mart.
Montero explained that communities from different parts of Peru were invited to participate, allowing them to showcase traditional skills and cultural products.
“These people are from different regions, and for them it means a lot to be part of the event,” she said.
These communities presented crafts including embroidery, ceramics and jewellery, demonstrating how tourism can support local traditions and provide opportunities for regional development.

“They are very proud to show their communities, how they work very hard in embroidery or ceramics or jewellery,” she said.
The event has therefore expanded from being only a business meeting into a broader cultural showcase where destinations, communities and tourism businesses can connect.
Peru Tourism Focuses On Authentic Experiences And Sustainability
During the interview, Montero also discussed the organisation’s efforts to make tourism in Peru more sustainable.
Although the interview segment ended before detailed explanations were provided, sustainability remains connected with the broader objective of promoting responsible tourism experiences.
