Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas Opens a New Mediterranean Chapter for Indian Cruise Travellers
Indian travellers are showing strong interest in discovering multiple European destinations within a single holiday, according to new YouGov research commissioned by Royal Caribbean. The study found that 67% of Indian respondents consider exploring multiple European destinations by cruise appealing, highlighting growing interest in travel experiences that combine convenience, variety and leisure.
The findings come as Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class vacation, brings the company’s Icon Class experience to Europe for the first time. The ship is offering travellers the opportunity to explore the Mediterranean from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, combining renowned European destinations with an extensive range of entertainment, dining and family experiences onboard.

The research surveyed travellers across India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. It found that nearly nine in ten respondents across the five markets identified at least one challenge when travelling between multiple European destinations, underlining the growing appeal of more seamless holiday formats.
Making Every Moment Of Europe Count
For Indian travellers, the attraction of exploring Europe by cruise is closely linked to convenience. The ability to visit multiple destinations with ease emerged as the leading perceived benefit, cited by 45% of Indian respondents, followed by safety and comfort at 42%.

Meanwhile, 40% valued having meals and entertainment included, while 39% highlighted the opportunity to avoid airport processes such as check-in, security procedures and potential delays. Together, the findings point towards a growing preference for holidays that reduce the logistical demands of travelling between several European destinations.
With a cruise, travellers can remain in one accommodation while the ship moves between destinations. This allows guests to spend more time enjoying their holiday rather than repeatedly organising transfers, checking into hotels or managing luggage between cities.
Legend of the Seas brings this proposition to the Mediterranean with itineraries featuring sought-after destinations across Spain, France and Italy. Ports and destinations include Palma de Mallorca, Provence, Florence, Rome and Naples/Capri, giving travellers access to several European experiences within one journey.
Europe Remains A Major Attraction
The research also highlights the continued popularity of Europe’s leading destinations among Indian travellers. Italy ranked first at 51%, followed by France at 48%, the United Kingdom at 45% and Spain at 30%.
The findings are significant because several of these destinations are spread across different countries. Travellers seeking to combine them independently may need to coordinate flights, trains, hotels, transfers and luggage throughout their journey.
Cruising offers an alternative approach by bringing multiple destinations together through a single holiday experience. Rather than treating transportation between cities as separate travel time, the cruise allows guests to continue enjoying dining, entertainment and leisure facilities while travelling between ports.
Indian travellers also appear increasingly open to cruising as an alternative to more traditional European transport. Trains ranked as the preferred option at 25%, while cruises and short-haul flights each recorded 24%, placing cruising virtually alongside two established ways of travelling between European destinations.
Private cars accounted for 18%, while buses and coaches represented 9%. The close results between trains, cruises and flights indicate that travellers are considering different ways to balance convenience, destination access and the overall quality of their holiday.
Turning The Journey Into The Holiday
A key feature of Legend of the Seas is the range of experiences available while the ship travels between Mediterranean destinations. The vessel combines the scale of an Icon Class vacation with entertainment and leisure experiences designed for different types of travellers.
Among Indian respondents, America’s Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas generated the strongest interest at 42%, compared with 39% across the five markets surveyed. The experience represents the first-ever America’s Got Talent stage show at sea and features performers from the wider Got Talent universe.
Family travel is another important element of the onboard proposition. Surfside Neighbourhood attracted interest from 37% of Indian respondents, reflecting demand for dedicated experiences designed for families travelling with young children.
The neighbourhood includes Splashaway Bay kids’ aquapark, a playscape with a climbing wall and family-friendly dining options at Pier 7 and Surfside Eatery. The ship also features Category 6 Waterpark, which Royal Caribbean describes as the largest waterpark at sea and a central attraction within Thrill Island.
Together, these experiences allow travellers to use the time between destinations as part of their holiday. The result is a travel experience where sightseeing ashore and entertainment onboard form part of the same journey.
Dining Becomes Part Of Discovery
Food and immersive dining experiences also feature prominently in the research. Royal Railway – Legend Station emerged as the dining experience Indian travellers were most interested in trying, attracting 28% of respondents compared with a five-market average of 23%.
Hollywoodland Supper Club also recorded stronger interest among Indian respondents, at 20%, compared with 15% across the regional markets surveyed. The results suggest that dining can play a role beyond convenience, particularly when restaurants combine food with storytelling, atmosphere and entertainment.
Royal Railway – Legend Station offers an immersive train-car dining experience built around a five-course expedition inspired by the ancient Silk Routes. Hollywoodland Supper Club draws on the golden age of Hollywood, while Chops Grille offers Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse experience, featuring premium cuts, fresh seafood, classic sides and brunch options.
For travellers spending several days at sea, such experiences can add another dimension to the overall itinerary. Dining becomes part of the entertainment programme rather than simply a requirement between excursions.
A More Seamless Way To Explore Europe
The research reflects a broader desire among travellers to make better use of limited holiday time. Visiting several European destinations can offer cultural variety, but independent multi-country itineraries may also involve frequent changes in accommodation and transport.
Royal Caribbean’s Mediterranean proposition seeks to address that friction by combining multiple destinations with a single onboard experience. Guests can unpack once, retain access to their cabin throughout the journey and continue using the ship’s facilities as they move from one European port to another.
For Indian holidaymakers travelling long distances to reach Europe, this structure can be particularly relevant. A single Mediterranean cruise can combine destination sightseeing with entertainment, dining, family activities and leisure without requiring travellers to repeatedly relocate between hotels.
“What stood out to us from the findings is how much travellers value making the most of their time when exploring Europe,” said Ben Bouldin, President, Greater China and Managing Director, Asia, Royal Caribbean. “Whether it is visiting iconic destinations, spending time with family, or simply enjoying the journey itself, travellers are increasingly looking for holidays that are seamless, enriching and full of adventure.”
Bouldin added that Legend of the Seas marks an important milestone for Royal Caribbean as the company brings an Icon Class vacation to Europe for the first time. He said the ship gives Indian travellers another way to experience Icon Class while exploring multiple European destinations during one trip.
Bringing Icon Class To European Waters
Legend of the Seas expands Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class proposition into the Mediterranean, combining destination-led travel with the facilities and entertainment associated with the company’s newest generation of ships.
The ship’s European itineraries provide access to some of the region’s most recognisable destinations while retaining a substantial onboard programme. This creates a holiday model in which the destination and the ship are both central to the experience.
For Indian travellers, the timing also reflects continued interest in European travel and multi-destination holidays. The research suggests that convenience is increasingly important alongside destination choice, particularly for travellers seeking to experience more than one country during a single vacation.
The survey findings do not represent a forecast of cruise bookings. Instead, they provide an indication of stated traveller preferences across the markets surveyed and highlight the factors that could influence how consumers consider different European holiday formats.
More European Experiences In One Vacation
With 67% of Indian respondents expressing an interest in multi-destination European cruising, the research points to a strong appetite for holidays that combine variety with convenience. Italy, France and Spain also feature prominently among the European destinations Indian travellers want to experience, creating a close connection between stated destination preferences and the Mediterranean itineraries offered by Legend of the Seas.
Royal Caribbean is positioning the ship around that intersection of discovery and ease. Its Mediterranean sailings bring together multiple European destinations while giving travellers access to entertainment, family attractions and dining throughout the journey.
For Indian travellers considering Europe, the proposition offers a different way to structure a multi-country holiday. Instead of moving from one hotel and transport connection to another, guests can make the ship their base while Europe unfolds around them, turning the journey between destinations into another part of the vacation.
