Elewana Collection is adding a luxury safari option in Tanzania with the expected opening in June 2027 of the Ngorongoro Explorer Lodge. The crater is home to an estimated 25,000 large mammals, including iconic species such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinoceroses.

The location will allow visitors to experience safari adventures while staying above the crater itself, with panoramic views stretching across the vast caldera. The property will also serve as a gateway to Olduvai Gorge, a globally significant archaeological site often referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind” because of its importance in understanding early human history.

By combining wildlife, archaeology and luxury accommodation, the lodge aims to position itself as a complete destination experience rather than simply a safari base.

The architectural design has been created by 2802 Architects, the same architectural practice responsible for Serengeti Explorer. The design approach for Ngorongoro Explorer Lodge will prioritise harmony with the natural environment, ensuring the crater remains the centrepiece of the guest experience.

The property will use neutral and darker tones combined with extensive vegetation around the buildings to blend into the surrounding landscape. Open views towards the crater will remain a defining feature throughout the lodge.

Public areas will include open-fire lounges and terraces positioned along the crater rim, allowing guests to enjoy the scenery while experiencing the atmosphere of a traditional African safari setting.

Crater-Facing Rooms and Premium Facilities Designed Around the Safari Experience

The accommodation at Ngorongoro Explorer Lodge will include 84 rooms, all designed with uninterrupted views towards the crater. Each guestroom will feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows, bringing the surrounding landscape directly into the living spaces.
