Cambodia is reinforcing its ties in tourism with South Korea as IIDA pledges to help Cambodia become a travel destination country as well as to encourage more investments in Cambodia by Korean companies. The pledge was made during a meeting that took place between His Excellency HUOT Hak, Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, and Mr. Mun Yong-Jo, President of the International Interchange Development Association (IIDA) of the Republic of Korea together with representatives of large South Korean companies.
Discussions were held on how to develop cooperation in tourism, how to increase the number of visitors coming from Korea, how to enhance people-to-people ties, and how to attract investments in Cambodia from South Korea.
During the bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, H.E. HUOT Hak expressed appreciation for IIDA’s initiative to strengthen tourism cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea. South Korea remains an important source market for Cambodia due to strong travel demand, geographical proximity and growing interest in Southeast Asian cultural and leisure destinations. By working with organisations such as IIDA, Cambodia hopes to increase awareness of its tourism experiences among Korean travellers and business communities.
During the meeting, Cambodia presented its current political, economic and social development progress as important factors supporting tourism growth. H.E. HUOT Hak emphasised that Cambodia continues to position itself as a safe, welcoming and attractive destination for international visitors. The country’s tourism strategy focuses on developing diverse experiences, improving destination quality and encouraging sustainable growth.
Cambodia is promoting not only its world-famous heritage attractions but also emerging tourism products linked to nature, culture, communities and wellness. The government has identified tourism as a priority economic sector and a key contributor to national development. Under the long-term vision of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, tourism is viewed as an important driver of economic growth, employment creation and improved livelihoods.
A major focus of Cambodia’s current tourism promotion strategy is the Visit Cambodia in the Green Season campaign. The initiative was developed in cooperation with airlines, travel agencies, content creators and international media organisations to highlight Cambodia’s tourism potential beyond traditional peak travel periods. The campaign promotes the country’s greener landscapes, cultural experiences and seasonal attractions while encouraging visitors to explore Cambodia throughout the year.

Through this initiative, Cambodia aims to diversify its tourism markets and develop richer, greener and smarter tourism products. The campaign also supports efforts to increase visitor spending by encouraging longer stays and broader exploration of destinations beyond major tourism centres.
IIDA President Mun Yong-Jo expressed support for Cambodia’s tourism development and highlighted the country’s stability, economic progress and security environment. During the visit, the delegation observed Cambodia’s development achievements and expressed confidence in the country’s future tourism and investment opportunities.
Mr. Mun Yong-Jo also acknowledged Cambodia’s efforts to address online crime issues, noting the importance of maintaining a secure environment for residents, visitors and investors. The IIDA leadership pledged to promote Cambodia’s progress among South Korean communities and business networks. The organisation also committed to developing joint action plans aimed at increasing travel exchanges, strengthening tourism cooperation and expanding business connections between the two countries.
South Korea has long been recognised as a valuable tourism market for Cambodia. Korean travellers are attracted by Cambodia’s cultural heritage, natural landscapes, hospitality experiences and historical attractions. Destinations such as Siem Reap and Angkor, Phnom Penh and coastal areas continue offering strong appeal for Korean visitors seeking cultural exploration, relaxation and unique experiences.
Increasing connectivity, tourism promotion and stronger travel partnerships can help Cambodia attract more Korean travellers in the future. The cooperation with IIDA provides an additional platform for Cambodia to reach potential visitors through business networks, cultural exchanges and promotional activities.
Beyond visitor growth, the Cambodia-South Korea tourism partnership also focuses on investment opportunities. The participation of South Korean corporate leaders highlights interest in Cambodia’s expanding tourism economy. Potential investment areas include:
Foreign investment can support Cambodia’s goal of improving tourism facilities, expanding accommodation options and creating more diverse visitor experiences. South Korean investors bring international expertise and business networks that could contribute to the continued development of Cambodia’s tourism sector.
The International Interchange Development Association (IIDA) is a South Korea-based organisation focused on international cooperation, cultural exchange, education, trade and economic development. Through global events and partnership programmes, IIDA works to strengthen relationships between countries and support international collaboration.
For Cambodia, the organisation represents a potential partner for expanding tourism promotion, strengthening business networks and attracting Korean investment. The involvement of IIDA demonstrates the increasing importance of partnerships between governments, private-sector organisations and international associations in tourism development.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia and the IIDA of South Korea is yet another move that will lead to the development of tourism relations between these two countries. Promoting tourism destinations, attracting Korean visitors and investments will contribute to making tourism in Cambodia more competitive and sustainable.
Collaboration between the countries under discussion also fits into the regional context where countries develop their tourism relations through cultural cooperation, enhanced connectivity and business collaboration. As South Korea remains one of the outbound travel markets, the partnership with the IIDA can bring benefits to Cambodia.
