RX India has formally introduced WTM Spotlight India at a high-profile leadership gala held at The Oberoi, New Delhi, marking the official unveiling of the new travel trade platform ahead of its debut edition scheduled for 2–4 March 2027 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.

The launch event formed a key milestone in RX’s expansion of its globally recognised World Travel Market (WTM) portfolio, with the India edition positioned as a dedicated gateway to connect international travel and tourism suppliers with India’s fast-growing outbound and inbound travel sector. The initiative reflects RX’s strategic focus on strengthening its long-term presence in one of the world’s most dynamic travel economies.

The exclusive gathering brought together a wide cross-section of stakeholders from the global travel ecosystem, including senior government representatives, tourism associations, international travel brands, hospitality leaders, travel trade buyers and media professionals. The evening also served as a networking platform following the official presentation of the upcoming event.

The occasion was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, with Shri Suman Billa, IAS, Additional Secretary, participating as the Guest of Honour.

Prominent industry figures present included Anil Parasher, President & CEO, InterGlobe Technology Quotient, Sandeep Marwah, Chancellor, AAFT and Founder of Marwah Studios, Hemant Mehendiratta, Managing Director, One Rep Global, Isha Goyal, Executive Director and CEO, SITC Travels, and Kanwar Deep Singh, Founder & President, Travel Bullz, alongside other key leaders from the travel and hospitality sector.

The event underlined growing anticipation for WTM Spotlight India 2027, which is expected to serve as a major international networking and business platform for the global travel trade community, anchored in India’s rapidly expanding tourism market.

Speaking at the event, Shri Suman Billa, Additional Secretary & Director General of Tourism,
Government of India said,
“India’s travel and tourism sector is at an inflection point, with rising
outbound and inbound demand creating significant opportunities for global partnership and
investment. The Ministry welcomes platforms like WTM Spotlight India that bring global
expertise and commercial focus to this growth, strengthening India’s position on the global
tourism map.”

India’s travel and tourism sector is continuing to record strong expansion, driven by higher disposable incomes, improved transport and aviation connectivity, and a clear shift towards premium and experience-focused journeys. At the same time, the country has become an increasingly important outbound source market, opening new commercial pathways in international travel, destination marketing, and long-term tourism investment.

Umang Gupta, Country Head, RX India, noted that India is now positioned at the core of one of the most dynamic growth narratives in global tourism. He highlighted that the country is not only among the fastest-expanding travel markets worldwide but is also gaining significant traction as a destination for global tourism brands, innovation-driven partnerships, and strategic investment flows. According to him, rising income levels, changing traveller expectations, and consistent policy-level support are collectively generating unprecedented opportunities for stakeholders across the travel value chain.

Against this evolving backdrop, the introduction of WTM Spotlight India represents a key milestone for the industry. The market is transitioning into a new phase defined by greater diversity, stronger demand for premium offerings, and deeper global integration than in previous years. Leveraging the established reputation and international network of the World Travel Market portfolio, the initiative aims to connect global industry players with India’s expanding travel ecosystem and its emerging growth potential.

He further emphasised that WTM Spotlight India goes beyond a conventional trade event. It is structured as a high-value commercial platform intended to enable strategic networking, foster meaningful collaborations, and create fresh business opportunities across the global travel and tourism landscape.

“We are anchoring the world’s most powerful travel network right here on Indian soil, creating a
platform that reflects the scale of India’s ambition and its growing influence on global tourism.
And with that, we step into the future with WTM, leverage its reach and unlock the true value of
India’s tourism potential.”, he concluded.

Ahead of the first edition, RX India is actively working with destinations, travel brands, and buyer networks to shape a strong global platform. The initiative is designed to bring together the most relevant international partners and India’s fast-evolving travel sector, while also supporting the country’s next stage of growth in inbound and outbound tourism through structured global collaboration.
