Ferry services between the Andaman Islands increases during the peak travel months, and decreases during the monsoon months. Data from BookYourFerry, along with verified timetables, showed that between June and September there were 717 confirmed ferry legs, while from October to February there were 2,837 confirmed ferry legs. The study analyzed 34,868 ferry legs that were operated between June 2025 and July 2026. It showed the variations in the peak travel months compared to the monsoon months and how this affected the booked ferry services.

The impact of seasonal changes is particularly evident when comparing individual months. July recorded only 8% of the ferry-leg volume available in December, showing the sharp contrast between the quieter monsoon period and the busier peak season. However, the reduction in connectivity is not identical across the entire ferry network. Different routes experience varying levels of service changes, making route-specific planning essential for travellers preparing island-hopping itineraries.

Individual sectors across the Andaman Islands demonstrate different levels of seasonal resilience. The Havelock–Neil route maintained 19% of its peak-season ferry volume during the monsoon period, while the Havelock–Port Blair route retained 43% of its peak-season capacity. These differences show that ferry connectivity does not decline at the same pace across all island links, and travellers need to consider the availability of specific routes rather than relying only on overall seasonal trends.

Seasonal changes in ferry operations are also reflected in traveller booking behaviour. BookYourFerry analysed 3,265 booked sectors between April and July 2026, showing that 42% of ferry seats were reserved within 48 hours of departure. The overall median booking window stood at four days, although a significant 22% of travellers booked their ferry journeys at least two weeks before travel.

Booking patterns also shifted as the season progressed. The proportion of last-minute reservations made within 48 hours increased from 38% in April to 48% in June, indicating that traveller planning behaviour changes alongside variations in ferry schedules and availability. As ferry frequency becomes more limited during certain periods, booking decisions appear to adapt according to route capacity and seasonal demand.

The choice of ferry route also plays an important role in determining how early travellers make reservations. According to BookYourFerry data, passengers travelling on the Havelock–Neil sector booked their journeys a median of six days before departure, while travellers on the Port Blair–Havelock route generally booked three days in advance. For visitors planning multi-island journeys, understanding the booking trends of individual ferry sectors can be as important as monitoring the wider ferry network.

The analysis highlights the importance of detailed planning for travellers exploring the Andaman Islands. Seasonal ferry availability, route-specific schedules and changing booking patterns all influence how smoothly visitors can organise island-hopping experiences throughout the year.

Vivek Lall, Founder, BookYourFerry, said, “The Andaman Islands offer a distinctly seasonal travel experience, and ferry connectivity is an important part of that journey. What our data shows is that travellers are adapting their booking behaviour to these seasonal patterns. Looking at individual routes, rather than treating the islands as one uniform network, can help travellers plan their journeys more effectively.”

BookYourFerry’s latest dataset also reveals that ferry operations across the Andaman Islands change depending on seasonal demand, route conditions and vessel availability. The platform’s schedule information covers major ferry operators, including Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean and ITT Majestic, with service frequency influenced by travel dates, specific routes and vessel deployment plans. By bringing together multiple ferry schedules in one place, the dataset offers travellers a consolidated resource for planning journeys between key island destinations such as Port Blair, Havelock Island and Neil Island.

The findings highlight the importance of adopting a season-focused approach when planning an Andaman itinerary. Travellers visiting during the peak season can benefit from reviewing schedules early and reserving preferred sailings in advance, particularly on popular routes. Visitors travelling during the monsoon period may need to maintain greater flexibility, monitor updated ferry availability and adjust island-hopping plans according to operational changes closer to their travel dates.

Ferry connectivity across the Andaman Islands does not follow a fixed pattern throughout the year. Instead, availability shifts according to seasonal conditions, route demand and operator schedules. By combining ferry movement data with real booking behaviour, BookYourFerry provides a clearer understanding of how travellers can better plan island-to-island journeys during different times of the year.
