Amongst the airline leaders, sustainability will be the main focus of the gathering discussion at the 67th Assembly of Presidents of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines which is taking place in Singapore this week.

AAPA Director General, Mr. Subhas Menon, said that attaining sustainability goals is serious for the success of the future international air transport sector and its constant role as an agent for social and financial development.

Extreme conditions of weather and record temperatures this year getting closer to the threshold of global warming set by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, are a strong demand for all players of the industry, particularly fuel suppliers and governments, to speed up efforts in terms of sustainability.

Besides aviation sustainability, the AAPA Assembly of Presidents will celebrate the return of the industry to development and success as well. AAPA member carriers carry on seeing powerful retrieval in air travel in spite of a reduced global financial climate resulting from record inflation, and destructive monetary strategies to reign it in.

The number of international air passengers in September 2023, in Asia Pacific, reached 79% of the levels of 2019. Nonetheless, the demand is robust, with global traffic of the air passengers measured in revenue passenger kilometres growing by 171%.
