Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to host the 67th edition of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) Assembly of Presidents on November 9 and 10, 2023. The AAPA, comprising 14 member airlines, represents scheduled international carriers in the Asia Pacific region. The event, taking place at Singapore’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel, anticipates the participation of over 200 delegates, attendees, and international media members.

Representatives from important organizations like the International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Airports Council International (ACI), Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, as well as the larger aerospace and aviation community, will be present alongside delegates from member airlines, including CEOs and senior management.

Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, will serve as the guest of honor at the opening session on Friday, November 10, 2023.

The theme for this year’s event, “Sustainable Air Transport Growth in the Asia Pacific,” highlights the significance of international air transport and the industry’s dedication to sustainability. The Assembly serves as a platform to deliberate on opportunities and challenges in the airline sector, focusing on devising a strategy for sustainable growth in the region.

Following the pandemic, the airline industry in Asia Pacific recovered, with passenger capacity in the region reaching 77% of pre-pandemic levels in August 2023. Due in part to this, air travel has become more and more popular.

Mr. Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, expresses his pleasure in hosting the AAPA Assembly. He emphasizes the importance of enhanced collaboration. He says, “We look forward to meaningful discussions that will help to lay the groundwork for an even brighter future for the Asia Pacific’s airline industry.”

Mr. Subhas Menon, Director General of the AAPA, highlighted the significance of 2023 for Asia Pacific aviation. He adds, “Air travel is again charging ahead even as the broader global economy comes off the boil. As it looks to return to growth, the industry must navigate challenging geopolitical, economic, and climate realities.”
