Abadía Retuerta

Lately, Green Globe recertified Abadía Retuerta in Spain. Abadía Retuerta is a five-star hotel along with a winery in the Duero Valley in Spain. From Madrid, it takes less than two hours. It’s based on the grounds of a 12th-century monastery. The origins of this project are in winemaking, however, at present, it has become so much determined by a continuing passion to deliver something exclusive and memorable experiences in and around wine, nature, art, food and wellness. The estate spreads across 1,700 acres of land. The monastery’s 86,000 ft2 comprise spaces full of 30 luxurious hotel rooms.

The Abadía Retuerta, CEO, Enrique Valero said that sustainability is an important pillar of their business, and they think it to be a main value that blends environmental as well as social ideas seamlessly. In their case, they are the guardians of two legacies: they have a natural heritage, spread across 700 hectares in an exclusive valley shaped by the River Duero, and they have their historic and cultural heritage together.

Their aim is to pass on these inheritances to upcoming generations, in ever better conditions. Abadía Retuerta has got many impressive awards and grabbed many sustainability accolades recognizing the estate’s green credentials and initiations.
