Adventure tourism to be the main attraction in G20

From 1st to 3rd April 2023, the 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting of the G20 is all prepared to take place in Siliguri/Darjeeling. As per the Secretary Tourism, Mr. Arvind Singh, the meeting will primarily be aiming on talking on a deeper and broader level related to the five priorities of the Tourism Working Group which include Digitalization, Green Tourism, Skills, Destination Management and Tourism MSMEs.


The Ministry of Tourism, India Government will be arranging a side event in regard to Adventure Tourism as a medium for attaining Sustainable Development Goals. From seven North-eastern states, the event will witness presentations on adventure tourism. Panelists invited to take part are the G20 Delegates, Gabriella Stowell from Adventure Tour Operators Association and Ajeet Bajaj, Padma Shri Awardee and the President of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India. Also, the event will feature comprehensive deliberations on tourism in Mission Mode: Advantage Adventure Tourism for the local tourism partners and Government of India.


A technical expedition to Darjeeling has been planned so far for all delegates, during the 2nd TWG Meeting. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the UNESCO World Heritage Site also known as the ‘Toy Train Ride,’ will be one of the prime draws. Delegates will get to relish a tea tasting experience and tea leaf plucking experience in moonlight. Also, they will visit the summer abode for the Governor of West Bengal, Raj Bhawan.
