AIDA Cruises announces grand revitalization plan for iconic fleet

Under the AIDA Evolution initiative, AIDA Cruises has embarked on its most ambitious fleet modernization project to date, marking a historical milestone for the company. The initial stage, set for 2025 and 2026, involves a comprehensive refurbishment of the Sphinx vessels AIDAdiva, AIDAbella, and AIDAluna, prioritizing innovative interior redesigns. This overhaul will also see upgrades to technical systems and apparatus.

The renovation will encompass a full refresh of all passenger cabins, alongside an expansion in the suite offerings. This enhancement introduces exclusive zones and amenities, particularly benefiting suite occupants. Culinary experiences will be broadened with a wider selection of dining options, signature bars, and improved service offerings. The Theatrium, a luminous and central feature of the Sphinx ships, will be revitalized with cozy seating and a cohesive color scheme, becoming an even more inviting hub. Additionally, new entertainment and activity spaces tailored for families with children will be unveiled.

Advancing Sustainable and Future-Ready Cruising
For years, AIDA Cruises has dedicated itself to shaping a sustainable and resilient cruise sector through its decarbonization efforts, incorporating pioneering solutions. Since the commissioning of its inaugural Sphinx-class vessel in 2004, the firm has embraced port shore power technology to minimize portside emissions. Beyond investing billions in advanced propulsion and eco-friendly technologies for its new fleet, AIDA Cruises has also applied a variety of operational efficiency practices and retrofitted existing vessels with modern technologies. Upcoming refit periods will see further enhancements aimed at reducing fuel use, improving energy efficiency, and conserving resources. As a member of the Carnival Corporation & plc’s cruise brand family, AIDA Cruises aims to lower its carbon intensity by 20 percent by 2026, referencing 2019 levels.

Refit and Modernization Initiatives
The Sphinx series ships, launched between 2007 and 2013, are distinguished by their innovative open-space layouts and vibrant design, integral to the distinctive AIDA experience. AIDAdiva is scheduled for a comprehensive six-week refit in spring 2025, marking the beginning of the modernization efforts. AIDAbella and AIDAluna are slated for their refurbishments in fall 2025 and spring 2026, respectively.
