Air New Zealand soars into the future with Starlink: In-flight internet revolution

In a groundbreaking move, Air New Zealand is set to revolutionize travel experiences within Aotearoa by collaborating with Starlink, a cutting-edge satellite internet service provider. The airline plans to introduce complimentary in-flight internet on its domestic aircraft, starting with a trial on a domestic jet and an ATR in late 2024.

The partnership aims to bring reliable high-speed, low-latency internet to passengers, enhancing their journey with unprecedented connectivity. Starlink, boasting the world’s largest satellite constellation, ensures a seamless internet experience with latency as low as 30ms. From streaming videos to working on-the-go, passengers can enjoy the internet as if they were in the comfort of their homes.

Air New Zealand’s Chief Digital Officer, Nikhil Ravishankar, emphasizes the airline’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences. He states, “Exploring in-motion connectivity with Starlink was a no-brainer, aligning with our pursuit of innovative technology for improved customer journeys.”

The first aircraft equipped with Starlink is scheduled for late 2024, initiating a trial period of four to six months. Successful trials will pave the way for the widespread implementation of Starlink internet across the domestic fleet in 2025.
