AirAsia X (AAX) is set to expand its presence in Central Asia by introducing direct flights from Almaty to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, commencing on the 14th of March 2024, offering a schedule of four weekly services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The entry of AAX into Central Asia signifies a noteworthy achievement for this medium-haul airline, creating fresh opportunities for globetrotters, adventure enthusiasts, and culinary aficionados from Kazakhstan to immerse themselves in the captivating city of Kuala Lumpur and the diverse landscapes of Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur, the vibrant capital of Malaysia, extends a warm welcome to visitors with its iconic skyline, profound cultural heritage, and the harmonious fusion of modernity and tradition. Serving as a key entry point to Southeast Asia, it provides convenient connectivity to numerous destinations across the region.

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, Capital A Chairman said: “This is an exciting new chapter for AAX as we expand our network in a new market for the first time after 16 years since our inception, connecting Almaty and Kuala Lumpur. We are proud to be the first Malaysian airline to fly to Kazakhstan. As our first foray into Central Asia, the expansion into the Kazakhstan market is a strong testament to our vision and determination to explore new territories as well as resume services to our most popular destinations post-pandemic. The move to introduce direct flights to Almaty is expected to foster significant trade, commerce and education interchange, and more employment opportunities considering Kazakhstan’s status as the wealthiest country in Central Asia.

“We take pride in enabling travelers from Kazakhstan to embark on a journey to discover the marvels of Malaysia, with affordable fares that unlock access to the pristine shores of Sabah, Kuala Terengganu, and Langkawi; the gastronomic delights of Penang; the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sarawak; and a multitude of enticing domestic destinations. Through our Fly-Thru connectivity, guests can seamlessly explore the hidden gems of Southeast Asia, including Phuket & Krabi in Thailand, Bali & Lombok in Indonesia, Siem Reap in Cambodia, Saigon in Vietnam, and many more. With this new route, our aim is not only to enhance travel opportunities between two thriving regions but also to strengthen the existing ties between Kazakhstan and Malaysia, while contributing to the socio-economic development of both nations.”

As AirAsia prepares to inaugurate its flights between Almaty and Kuala Lumpur, travelers can anticipate immersing themselves in Malaysia’s natural beauty, rich culinary culture, diverse heritage, year-round sunny beaches, and gracious hospitality. To celebrate this exciting launch, promotional fares are now accessible for booking, commencing at USD249 all-inclusive for one-way Economy seats or USD699 all-inclusive for one-way Premium Flatbed seats. These special fares are available for booking through the airasia Superapp, the website, and affiliated local travel agencies from now until the 24th of December 2023, valid for travel between the 14th of March and the 26th of October 2024.
