The contract will see the Department of Tourism of South Africa work together with Airbnb to improve services related to tourism that are targeted at developing country’s tourism and generating more job opportunities in the sector.
This contract is anticipated to help the constant retrieval of the tourism and to create comprehensive tourism in South Africa.
Airbnb will work together with the Ministry of Tourism through four avenues in terms of the MoU agreement.
Firstly, a national database will be set up for short-term rentals in South Africa, as per Section 6 of the Tourism Act 2014, which would provide openness and honesty into the short-term rental market.
The information sharing regarding international best practice on short-term rentals, the registration system and Airbnb’s policy regulations worldwide are hoped to assist the DoT to create a position on short-term rentals, on the basis of Airbnb input, to bring in equality and transparency.
Secondly, the Ministry and the Airbnb will cooperate on the Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy. It’s a skills development program that is focused on spreading tourism’s benefits to historically deprived people by dropping all barriers to enter and provide financial empowerment.
Thirdly, there will be access to a special website created for governments and tourism organizations.
