Albert Yip, Director General of Sanya Tourism Board gives his talk

In an exclusive interview with Travel And Tour World correspondent, Albert Yip, Director General of Sanya Tourism Board shares his two pence on Sanya as a destination for leisure and MICE tourism.

Travel And Tour World: Tell us something about your experience at Routes World 2023?

Albert Yip: It has been a great experience to have come to Routes World after some years. As you know, Sanya is a destination and at Routes World, we are trying to get exposure by attending global events for example Routes World 2023 and others.

If more and more international airways come to Sanya, we will get more traffic and that will make our destination popular as a global destination.

Travel And Tour World: What are your plans to promote Sanya as a sustainable tourism destination?

Albert Yip: When it comes to sustainability, we focus on three parts- social, climatic and economic. We focus on the environment as Sanya has a perfect coastal sea line, we have the best air quality in China. Also, we have wonderful rain forest in Sanya.

Travel And Tour World: Share with our readers the concept ‘tourism plus’ as we were talking about.

Albert Yip: We emphasize on something called ‘Tourism Plus’ which is actually tourism along with education, events and so on.  We encourage tourists around the world to see our rainforest. We need to preserve our nature for the next generation. They will not see the same scenery as we see now. We encourage them to participate in our events and promote how we preserve the natural beauty of Sanya.

Travel And Tour World: Do you have any plan to promote Sanya as a MICE destination as well?

Albert Yip: Our hotels are places where we can cater to various events. We encourage enterprises to build convention centres. We are having a new convention centre in the Haitang Bay area.

We are already hosting a lot of events and the new convention centre is already on the surface with facilities suitable for international events.

So while we are looking forward to promoting Sanya, we include MICE in our plans and how we are going to cater to hotels, events and other facilities.
