As the festive season approaches, hoteliers are gearing up for increased demand as individuals plan Christmas and New Year’s Eve travels. Amadeus, a global technology provider, utilizing its unique forward-looking business intelligence data, observes a surge in demand during the Christmas and New Year period across major markets worldwide.

Based on Amadeus’ Demand360+ data as of November 27, 2023, global hotel occupancy for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s has already reached 23%, indicating a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. This festive season, occupancy levels globally are surpassing those of 2022, reflecting a renewed confidence in travel and a preference for warmer climates in leading destinations.

During this festive season, travelers appear to prioritize sun, nature, gastronomy, and culture, contributing to high occupancy levels in APAC and LATAM. Compared to the previous year, APAC is trending 8% higher, EMEA 7%, LATAM 4%, and NORAM is in line with 2022. Los Cabos, the leading market, has seen a significant 16% increase in bookings since 2022.

The data further reveals that travelers continue to book accommodations close to their intended travel dates, with 56% of worldwide travelers making hotel reservations within a week of their trip—an increase of 4% from 2022. This presents an opportunity for hoteliers to capitalize on last-minute demand.

Edward Wright, Regional Vice President, Hospitality, Asia Pacific, Amadeus, emphasizes the importance of comprehensive forward-looking business intelligence data for hoteliers. This data enables them to identify booking patterns and revenue opportunities, allowing them to tap into last-minute demand while ensuring their properties are adequately staffed to provide an exceptional guest experience.
