The Division of Arkansas Heritage extends an invitation to visitors for the Great North American Eclipse on April 8, 2024, encouraging them to make the most of their stay by delving into the rich history of Arkansas.

Director Marty Ryall emphasizes that Arkansas provides one of the prime locations for witnessing the eclipse, and the hope is that visitors will continue their exploration of the state’s authentic charm post-eclipse. Numerous cultural sites and museums under the stewardship of Arkansas Heritage await guests throughout the state.

Situated in downtown Little Rock, the Historic Arkansas Museum offers a captivating journey into the past and present of Arkansas. Nearby, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center pays tribute to the African American history of Arkansas. Also in Little Rock, the Old State House Museum stands as the original state capitol of Arkansas.

For those interested in the arts, the Arkansas Arts Council Registry is a valuable resource to locate talented Arkansas artists. Moreover, Arkansas boasts nearly 80 preserved natural areas under the care of the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission.

Exploration of the state’s history is further facilitated by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, which oversees various historic sites weaving together the tapestry of Arkansas’s past.

For a deep dive into the archival records of Arkansas spanning over 200 years, the Arkansas State Archives in Little Rock, Powhatan, and Washington, Ark., offer free access to the public.

To immerse oneself in Delta and blues history, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, Ark., is a must-visit. Alternatively, tune in to King Biscuit Time on KFFA Radio, the longest-running daily blues radio show in the U.S.
