Association of Asia Pacific Airlines Figures Show Stable Recovery Intourist Influxes

The initial traffic numbers for September 2023 released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) exhibited firm growth in global passenger markets, steered by a stable recovery in tourist influxes across the region. Additional recovery in demand on routes linking China, gave an additional impetus to the travel rebound.

On an overall note, Asia Pacific airlines witnessed a 111.0% year-on-year upsurge considering the number of global passengers reaching a collective total of 23.7
million in September. This carries demand to 79.0% of the corresponding month in 2019, marking a considerable development equated to 52.9% in January. Request in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) amplified by 90.9% year-on-year, and accessible
seat volume went up by 86.1%, bringing a 2.0 percentage point upsurge in the average global commuter load aspect to 79.7% for the month. 

After 18 successive months in deterioration since March last year, the region’s flights witnessed an improvement in demand in global air freight in September, marking a 3.2% year-on-year growth as evaluated in freight tonne kilometers (FTK). While the
surge can be partly credited to comparisons with disheartening levels seen in 2022, the beginning of the peak demand season leading to the year-end celebratory time also aided to the progress. The global cargo weight factor dropped by 3.3 percentage points to average 60.6% for the month, after accounting for an 8.8% year-on-year growth in obtainable cargo volume.
