The luxury travel market in the Middle East is rapidly evolving, moving beyond extravagant experiences to embrace heritage, innovation, and sustainability. At the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, scheduled from Monday 6 to Thursday 9 May at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), global tourism experts will focus on the sub-theme of luxury.

According to YouGov’s Global Travel & Tourism Whitepaper 2023: Luxury Travel Post-Pandemic, high-spending travelers are willing to pay extra for experiences that positively impact communities and ecosystems. The whitepaper reveals that 61% of UAE residents are willing to pay a premium for responsible, eco-friendly, and sustainable tourism experiences, challenging the notion that luxury is solely about indulgence.

ATM 2024 has already secured the participation of prominent brands such as Kerzner International’s Atlantis The Palm, Mandarin Oriental Dubai (BVI) Limited, Jumeirah International LLC, Air Charter Service, Hyatt International, Mayfair Jets, Minor Hotel Group, Nirvana Holding, The Leading Hotels of the World, and Desert Gate Tourism. The exhibition will serve as a global platform for exploring the evolving landscape of luxury travel, showcasing future trends, innovations, entrepreneurial drivers, and growth opportunities.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director at Arabian Travel Market, emphasized the event’s alignment with the future of travel by incorporating luxury travel as a sub-theme. Curtis noted that the segment not only encompasses extravagant experiences but also emphasizes eco-conscious choices, cultural preservation, and cutting-edge technologies, setting a new standard for the travel industry.

The global luxury travel sector’s estimated value was $1.28 trillion in 2022, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.7% from 2023 to 2030, according to Grand View Research. This growth is evident in the Middle East, where a majority of respondents from both the UAE (74%) and KSA (69%) plan to increase their vacation spending in 2023.

Innovation plays a significant role in driving the luxury travel segment, with technologies like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data enhancing the overall travel experience. ATM 2024 will provide a comprehensive platform to delve into these trends, reflecting the Middle East’s position as a global hub for luxury tourism.

The 31st edition of ATM, themed ‘Empowering Innovation: Transforming Travel Through Entrepreneurship,’ will convene policymakers, industry leaders, and travel professionals to foster new relationships, share knowledge, and identify innovations that will shape the future of global travel and tourism. The event will spotlight how innovators, from startups to established brands, contribute to enhanced customer experiences, increased efficiencies, and progress towards a net-zero future for the industry.

Building on ATM 2023’s ‘Working Towards Net Zero’ theme, ATM 2024 will focus on environmentally responsible travel, inspired by the UAE’s Year of Sustainability and the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. The event aims to explore how innovation can support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a greener travel and tourism sector for future generations.

The 30th edition of ATM in May 2023 set a new record with over 40,000 travel trade professionals, including 30,000 visitors, and more than 2,100 exhibitors from over 155 countries. The exhibition unveiled ATM’s net-zero pledge and emphasized the industry’s commitment to sustainability.

ATM 2024, held in conjunction with Dubai World Trade Centre, has strategic partners including Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as the Destination Partner, Emirates as the Official Airline Partner, IHG Hotels & Resorts as the Official Hotel Partner, and Al Rais Travel as the Official DMC Partner.
