The highly successful Night Race of the 2023 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) at Sydney Motorsport Park has paved the way for another thrilling round in 2024. Through the continued support of Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, round two of the 2024 ASBK Championship is set to take place at the 3.93km grand prix circuit, offering two days of exhilarating racing on March 22-23.

The action-packed on-track events will unfold over the course of two days, featuring daytime practice and qualifying sessions. As the sun sets, the ASBK Night Race will come alive, illuminated by Sydney Motorsport Park’s 138 light towers. Off the track, fans of all ages can enjoy a variety of activities, with the ASBK pit area open to the public, providing an up-close look at the machines and riders.

The return of ASBK to Sydney in 2024 adds to an impressive lineup of major events in the city, orchestrated by Destination NSW. This promises a weekend filled with excitement and spectacle, both on the track and throughout the lively city. The 2023 ASBK Night Race at SMSP, a historic event as the first under lights in the 37-year history of the iconic ASBK Championship, featured stellar performances by the superstars of Australian Superbike racing, captivating fans from all corners of Australia.

Ducati rider Josh Waters made history as the inaugural winner under lights at SMSP in the premier Alpinestars Superbike class. His triumph, along with the positive sentiments shared by fellow competitors, highlighted the success and acclaim surrounding the new ASBK Night Race and the overall Sydney event.

NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism, John Graham, said, “We’re creating unforgettable experiences for our city and this race promises to be a standout event for motorsport lovers, as local and visiting fans can watch as riders show off their skills under the bright night lights.”

Glenn Matthews, CEO, Australian Racing Drivers Club (ARDC), the operator of SMSP said that they are delighted to welcome back the Australian Superbike Championship in 2024. Peter Doyle, CEO, Motorcycling Australia thanks Destination NSW for all its insight and support into making the event happen. He says, “The return of ASBK to Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this year for the first time since 2019 was cause enough for celebration, but to see it happen under lights was simply magnificent.”
