Austrian Airlines earns EMAS quality label for responsible aviation

Austrian Airlines achieved its first successful validation under the stringent European EMAS regulation (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and received certification for the international standard ISO 14001 for environmental management systems. Joining other Lufthansa Group companies, Austrian Airlines demonstrates significant corporate environmental responsibility. External auditors thoroughly reviewed the company’s environmental management system in 2023, highlighting the competence and dedication of employees responsible for implementing EMAS.

“The successful introduction of an environmental management system to the highest standard enables systematic and sustainable improvements in our business activities. We are proud that Austrian Airlines is following a route that will support us in achieving our environmental goals,” says CEO Annette Mann.

EMAS, a voluntary instrument of the European Union, assists companies and organizations of all sizes and sectors in enhancing their environmental performance. EMAS registration encompasses all requirements of the international environmental management standard ISO 14001, along with additional requirements. Austrian Airlines’ inaugural Environmental Report details its environmental performance for 2022.
