The training program “AIRcelerate” was developed in 2018 to bridge the lack of specialists in academic positions, where airline-specific know-how as well as an understanding of business administration is needed. Austrian Airlines’ unique training program offers young and keen talents the best possible framework to start their career in the aviation industry. AIRcelerate is now entering its fourth round – applications can be submitted from today, 15 February 15, until 20 April.
Perfect combination of study and practice
In September 2022, the fourth AIRcelerate generation will start the dual study program at Austrian Airlines. For seven semesters, eight young talents will study for the aviation management bachelor’s degree at the University of Applied Sciences Worms in Germany. In addition to the classic business administration, the English-language program teaches students all theoretical basics to successfully manage an aviation company. “In addition to operational assignments on the ground or in the air, students learn everything they need to know to join Austrian Airlines directly after the program by job rotation in a wide range of departments as well as in numerous practical commercial phases, projects and training courses. We offer the best opportunities to become experienced and competent aviation managers throughout the entire training phase,” says Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino. During the program, participants will also be supported by a mentor from the management team.
Nine of the current 17 AIRcelerators are actively in training. Eight have already successfully completed the program in 2021, five of them are still working for Austrian Airlines in various departments.
Austrian Airlines gives the opportunity for personal and professional development
To gain international experience and develop personal strengths, AIRcelerate participants have the opportunity to study a semester abroad, for example in the US, Canada or China. A main focus of the trainee program is also comprehensive coaching and seminars to support personal development. Another part of the program is an assignment to a project of the Lufthansa Group aid organization Help Alliance. In the coming weeks, five AIRceleraters will be volunteering in Gambia for “Sabab Lou”, a project in which young people find new prospects through training in the agricultural industry.
Participants in the AIRcelerate program will be employed at Austrian Airlines from the very beginning and, in addition to the salaries during practical phases, they will also receive employee benefits such as discounted flights. Interested candidates with a “Matura” diploma or an equivalent qualification that qualifies them for university studies can apply on the website until April 20, 2022. The best applicants will then be invited to an assessment center.
