Starting next year, the Red Centre in Australia will benefit from enhanced aviation services, with Bonza and Airnorth launching new routes to and from Alice Springs. Airnorth will introduce a direct flight between Alice Springs and Perth, offering residents of the Northern Territory greater selection and more affordable fares for travel to Western Australia. This service, set to begin on 25 March 2024, will be available three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, coinciding with the Easter and school holiday period, with tickets currently available for purchase.
This marks the first time since June 2022 that Alice Springs will have a direct flight to Perth, a route previously served by Qantas. Airnorth’s competitive pricing not only presents an alternative route to Perth but also takes advantage of Perth’s status as a major international hub, which has seen over 1.3 million international travelers since July of this year.
In a related development, Bonza, Australia’s newest budget airline, has recently inaugurated its service in Alice Springs with flights from Melbourne. This offers both local residents and tourists additional travel options and improved connectivity. Bonza’s low-cost fares are designed to make travel to Melbourne more accessible for locals and to facilitate tourist visits to the Red Centre.
These new air services are the outcome of the Territory Aviation Attraction Scheme, an initiative aimed at enhancing aviation access and connections to the Northern Territory.
