BARIG, the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany, advocates for open dialogue and robust collaboration with key stakeholders in the aviation sector to collectively address the challenges facing the industry. The association is pleased to welcome Düsseldorf Airport as its newest partner, expanding its network beyond Munich and Stuttgart.
Michael Hoppe, Chairman and Executive Director of BARIG, emphasizes the crucial role of optimized infrastructure and processes in ensuring efficient air traffic. He highlights the significance of constructive exchanges between airport operators and airlines, particularly in areas such as ground operations, aviation security, and sustainability. This collaboration aims to drive continuous improvements, ultimately benefiting passengers and air cargo customers.
During the recent BARIG Full Board meeting in Frankfurt on December 13, 2023, representatives from Düsseldorf Airport and various airlines engaged in discussions regarding preparations for the upcoming year, focusing on significant events anticipated in 2024.
Dr. Henning Pfisterer, Senior Vice President Aviation and Accountable Manager at Düsseldorf Airport, reports on the airport’s strong operational performance during the 2023 peak season, characterized by reduced delays and minimal passenger waiting times. Looking ahead, he highlights the preparations for the UEFA European Football Championship scheduled to take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Anticipating a surge in flight demand during this period, Düsseldorf Airport is actively collaborating with BARIG and its airline partners to ensure effective planning and coordination for the event and the entire travel season.
As the largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous federal state in Germany, Düsseldorf Airport currently serves 59 airlines, recording over 16 million passengers in 2022.
