Today marks the commencement of the year-end holiday season, during which Brussels Airlines foresees transporting nearly 300,000 passengers over the next two weeks. Among these journeys, long-haul flights stand out as exceptionally popular, boasting an impressive average seat occupancy of 87.2%.

The busiest day throughout this holiday span will be today, hosting over 24,000 passengers on Brussels Airlines’ flights. Following closely, the second busiest day falls on Friday, December 29th, accommodating over 21,000 passengers. Interestingly, the trend reveals a preference for being at home or reaching their destinations before the holidays, as December 24th and December 31st emerge as the least favored travel days, with only 11,000 and 10,000 passengers respectively.

Approximately 228,000 passengers are expected to journey through the Short and Medium Haul network. Rome takes the lead as the most sought-after destination for passengers starting their journey in Brussels, closely followed by Malaga, Barcelona, and Vienna.

A total of almost 68,000 passengers are anticipated on long-haul flights. Despite being a numerical minority, these flights boast an above-average seat occupancy of 87.2%.

New York emerges as the most favored long-haul destination, trailed by Dakar and Kinshasa.

Reflecting on 2023: A Year of Evolution for Brussels Airlines
Brussels Airlines will unveil its full-year 2023 results in early March, and initial indications suggest positive financial outcomes, signifying the end of three financially tumultuous years for the Belgian airline.

A pivotal moment in 2023 for Brussels Airlines was the introduction of the Airbus A320neo, marking the airline’s inaugural aircraft of this model in its fleet, signifying a significant step forward. Additionally, the airline has since acquired another A320neo.

Moreover, Brussels Airlines has focused on enhancing passenger experience, evident in the revamped Sunrise Lounge, upgraded Business Class catering for short-haul flights, new amenity kits, and the appointment of Michaël Vrijmoed as the Star Chef for Brussels Airlines.

Outlook for 2024
The new year will commence with the unveiling of fresh uniforms for both flight and ground operations employees. Furthermore, flights to Krakow, Poland, are set to resume by the end of March, and in June, with the addition of a tenth long-haul aircraft, flights to Nairobi, Kenya, will be inaugurated. In 2024, Brussels Airlines anticipates welcoming three additional brand-new A320neo planes to its fleet, with more exciting developments on the horizon. Stay tuned!
