The Nigerian Film Festivals Association (NFFA) has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to leverage movies as a tool for industry growth. This initiative was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the newly inaugurated executive of NFFA to the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, in Abuja.

During the meeting, Mr. Uche Agbo, the association’s chairman, emphasized the potential for the ministry to harness the activities of film festivals to enrich the tourism sector. He noted that while approximately 30 film festivals are held annually in Nigeria, only 29 are members of NFFA, which acts as the overarching organization for all such festivals in the country.

Agbo expressed enthusiasm for the ministry to collaborate with these festivals, empowering emerging voices in cinema to narrate tourism-focused narratives. He pledged to develop a framework with his team to outline areas of mutual interest between the ministry and the association.

In response, the Minister conveyed gratitude to the delegation and expressed eagerness for a more substantive engagement with the association to initiate a fruitful collaboration.

Through this partnership, the Nigerian tourism industry stands to benefit significantly. By utilizing cinema as a medium, the ministry can showcase the country’s diverse cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and vibrant communities to both local and international audiences.

This collaboration not only promotes tourism but also nurtures the local film industry, fostering creativity and innovation while contributing to economic development. As tourists are drawn to explore Nigeria’s rich cinematic tapestry, the country’s tourism sector is poised for growth and increased visibility on the global stage.
