Cathay Pacific is set to enhance its global connectivity with the launch of a direct flight service between Hong Kong and Urumqi, marking a significant milestone as the airline’s 20th passenger destination in mainland China. The new service will commence on April 28, 2025, offering four return flights per week and further expanding the Cathay Group’s reach in the region.
This summer, Cathay Pacific, together with its low-cost carrier subsidiary, HK Express, will operate more than 290 weekly return flights connecting Hong Kong with various cities across mainland China. Key destinations on the roster include Beijing (Capital International and Daxing Airports), Shanghai (Pudong and Hongqiao Airports), Chengdu, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Haikou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao, Sanya, Wenzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou, in addition to Urumqi.
Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer of Cathay Pacific, expressed enthusiasm about the new route: Urumqi is a highly anticipated addition to our network, directly linking Hong Kong with a crucial Belt and Road hub in Northwestern China. This marks the 11th new port we’ve announced this year, bringing us closer to our goal of offering 100 global destinations in 2025.
As Hong Kong’s home airline, Cathay Pacific emphasizes its commitment to the region, offering passengers greater flexibility and choice for travel between Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond.
