This summer, Charlestown will be home to a new culinary and beer destination, Harbour Beer House, thanks to a collaborative effort between two renowned Cornish breweries, Harbour Brewing Co and St Austell Brewery. The establishment is set to occupy the former Harbourside Inn location, a property under St Austell Brewery’s ownership.

Currently, the site is under a significant renovation phase after sustaining severe damage from a fire in January 2023, which originated from the adjacent Pier House.

Harbour Beer House aims to become a prime spot for beer enthusiasts, offering a variety of regular, new, and exclusive brews from Harbour, alongside well-loved staples and rare cask specials from St Austell Brewery. In addition to its beer selection, the venue will feature freshly prepared pizzas and provide takeaway options with its installation of fridges.

This venture not only revitalizes a space with historical value but also introduces a unique gastronomic and cultural destination to the area. By offering an array of exclusive beers, alongside favourites from both breweries, and incorporating a culinary aspect with freshly made pizzas, the venue is set to attract a diverse crowd. Its location in Charlestown, known for its vibrant and popular destination appeal, enhances its potential to draw both domestic and international tourists.

This addition to the local hospitality scene contributes to broadening the tourist experience, potentially increasing visitor numbers and extending their stay. Furthermore, the refurbishment of a site damaged by fire demonstrates resilience and investment in the community’s future, fostering a positive impact on the local economy and supporting the growth of tourism-related services.

Harbour Brewing Co, established in 2021 near Bodmin, has previously collaborated with St Austell Brewery, which acquired a minority stake in Harbour Brewing Co in 2022. Eddie Lofthouse, the founder of Harbour, expressed excitement about this venture, highlighting Charlestown’s ideal location for the new outlet.

Helen Sprason, an area manager for St Austell Brewery, remarked on the revitalisation efforts for the building, acknowledging the impact of the fire on the Pier House, Harbourside, and the local community. She noted the collaboration with Harbour Brewing Co as a thrilling development for Charlestown, enhancing its appeal as a dynamic destination for both locals and tourists.

The opening of Harbour Beer House will also create new employment opportunities in the area. Additionally, the Pier House, another property owned by St Austell Brewery, is slated for a summer reopening, further contributing to Charlestown’s vibrant hospitality scene.
