The Chicago area is anticipating a drop in temperature this week, which might bring the possibility of snow accumulation, particularly to regions located to the south of the city, by Friday.

The National Weather Service has provided recent forecasts indicating a likelihood of snow gathering in Illinois’ LaSalle, Grundy, and Kankakee counties, as well as Newton and Jasper counties in Northwest Indiana.

Officials have noted a lesser probability of snow accumulation for areas situated south of Interstate 80, which includes parts of southern DeKalb County, northern LaSalle County, Kendall County, and Will County.

Current predictions suggest that 1 to 3 inches of snow may cover the area on Friday morning extending into the early afternoon, with the most significant chance of accumulation expected to occur south of the Kankakee River.

It is anticipated that the snow will dissipate from the region by mid-afternoon, just in time for the evening commute. Despite some areas possibly witnessing partly cloudy skies, the temperatures are predicted to be cooler than recent days, with the mercury only rising to the low-to-mid 30s.

The forecast also mentions that, following a chilly Saturday, temperatures are set to climb into the 40s by Sunday and further into the 50s by Tuesday. However, another wave of precipitation is expected to hit the area by Wednesday, as indicated by forecast models.

This forthcoming change in weather, marked by cooler temperatures and potential snowfall, could have a notable impact on tourism in the Chicago area and its surrounding regions. The prospect of snow may attract visitors interested in winter landscapes and activities, potentially boosting local tourism in the affected counties. However, travelers planning to visit or pass through these areas might need to consider the weather conditions, particularly regarding road safety and the possibility of delays.

As temperatures are predicted to rise again following the snowfall, this brief period of wintry weather could offer a unique opportunity for both residents and tourists to experience a swift transition from snowy scenes to milder conditions, possibly influencing outdoor plans and activities.
