After successfully securing the Liivi 2 site in Estonia’s inaugural offshore wind tender in December 2023, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the world’s premier fund manager specializing in greenfield renewable energy investments, and Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, view the adjacent Liivi 1 site as a natural expansion of the seabed area. This strategic move aims to enhance synergy and optimize the development of both sites as a unified offshore wind project.

Situated in the Gulf of Riga, northwest of Ruhnu Island and near Estonia’s Baltic Sea coast, the combined maritime area of Liivi 1 and Liivi 2 covers approximately 193 square kilometers. The anticipated operational date for the project, developed across these two sites, is post-2030, contingent upon obtaining necessary permits, securing suppliers, and finalizing financing arrangements.

CIP and Ignitis Renewables have formalized an exclusive collaboration agreement to explore offshore wind opportunities in Estonia and Latvia. This partnership capitalizes on CIP’s global expertise in offshore wind projects and Ignitis Renewables’ leading market position in the Baltic region.

With the acquisition of both Liivi 1 and Liivi 2 sea areas, CIP and Ignitis Renewables strategically position themselves to maximize the scale and potential of the sites. This move represents a pivotal investment in Estonia’s transition into a sustainable, long-term green energy hub in Europe.
