CWT presents Business Travel Journalism Awards 2023 results

CWT, the leading global provider of business travel and meetings solutions, has unveiled the winners of the 2023 Business Travel Journalism Awards (BTJAs) in its 20th annual edition. This prestigious event celebrated outstanding journalists and editors from national, consumer, broadcast, and trade media across the globe. The independent judging panel meticulously reviewed hundreds of submissions worldwide, selecting 12 winners who demonstrated exceptional and innovative coverage of business travel and events journalism throughout the past year.

The awards ceremony took place at an exclusive event held at The Tower of London, attended by a gathering of esteemed journalists and industry professionals.

Notable accolades include The Business Travel Magazine securing the Editorial Team of the Year award, commended for its distinctive features, outstanding design, and impeccably written content. Editor Bev Fearis received the Features Journalist of the Year Technology award for her insightful exploration of whether online booking tools can meet consumer expectations.

BTN Europe achieved a double victory, with editor Andy Hoskins earning the Editor of the Year title, and Amon Cohen winning Features Journalist of the Year Sustainability for his comprehensive piece on how existing and forthcoming EU regulations will shape the future of travel. Business Traveller also claimed two awards, with editor Tamsin Cocks winning Features Journalist of the Year Air for her article on next-gen developments in airline cabin climates, and Hannah Brandler securing Meetings and Events Journalist of the Year for her first-hand account of the growth of sustainable events in Iceland.

Francesca Street from CNN Travel was named the winner of the News Journalist of the Year category, praised for her informative and insightful stories, including ‘flight attendants’ secrets for surviving summer travel.’ Meanwhile, The Times Travel journalist Mike MacEacheran won Features Journalist of the Year Ground Transportation for his piece on luxury rail travel in Switzerland. Cheryl Teo of M&C Asia was awarded Features Journalist of the Year Destination for her in-depth spotlight on Seoul’s MICE offering.

Juan Daniel Núñez Sánchez from Smart Travel News was honored as Digital Journalist of the Year for his daily podcast, while M&IT editor Paul Harvey took home the Blogger/Columnist of the Year award for his blog on going vegan at a trade show. Chris Chamberlin, editor at Point Hacks, received the Features Journalist of the Year Accommodation award for his article about Accor’s global hotel loyalty program.

Administered by CWT, the BTJAs recognize distinguished business travel and meetings and events journalism. Open to journalists worldwide, the BTJAs received a significant influx of entries from across four continents this year. The winners were selected by an expert judging panel comprising business travel and meetings managers, industry experts, and respected editors.

The BTJA judging panel for 2023 included industry leaders such as Kate Aldridge, SVP Corporate Comms and Content, Paysafe; Sally Brown, Freelance Corporate Communications Director and Consultant, Sally Brown PR; Inge Huijbrechts, Global Senior VO Sustainability, Security and Corporate Communications, Radisson Hotel Group; and other distinguished professionals in the field.
