According to CMMI’s Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA), this influx poses significant challenges for small and medium-sized urban areas that receive multiple cruise ships simultaneously, leading to environmental degradation, infrastructure strain, and negative effects on local communities. The report emphasizes that while tourism is a vital economic driver for the region, unregulated growth can have long-term detrimental impacts.

Key Measures in the Action Plan

The CMMI has laid out three primary strategies to help mitigate these issues:

1. Commitment from Local Authorities: Local governments are urged to prioritize sustainable tourism practices by enacting policies that focus on environmental preservation over short-term economic benefits. Ensuring sustained political commitment is crucial for long-term success.
