Destination DC (DDC), the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC, has announced significant promotions in its executive team. Elliott L. Ferguson, II, President & CEO of Destination DC, expressed gratitude for the outstanding efforts of the team in overcoming various challenges and highlighted the pivotal roles of Claire Carlin and Tara Miller in executing the organization’s strategy for growth and global outreach.
Claire Carlin has been appointed Senior Vice President, Partnerships & Alliances. She has been a dedicated leader since joining DDC in 2015 as VP, Partnerships & Alliances. Under her guidance, a robust team manages nearly 1,000 members, 30 sponsors, and strategic partners. Claire has also spearheaded the successful DEI Business Fellowship program, offering free membership and technical training to businesses owned by historically underrepresented groups. In addition, she serves as the Executive Director of the American Experience Foundation (AEF), DDC’s affiliated charity, which provides enriching travel experiences and educational opportunities to students in the hospitality industry. Claire’s contributions have resulted in significant achievements for AEF, including awarding over $130,000 in scholarships, engaging students in more than 3,500 work-based learning experiences, hosting over 130 high school interns, and hiring four program participants as full-time staff at DDC. Beyond her DDC role, Claire is actively involved in various boards and committees, earning recognition as a German Marshall Fund Marshall Memorial Fellow and hospitality industry partner of the year by the DC Office of the State Superintendent for Education.
Claire Carlin expressed her commitment to building strong partnerships, supporting member businesses, and fostering initiatives like the Sustainability District to showcase local achievements and preserve the city for future generations.
Tara Miller has been appointed Director of Global Sales, leveraging her extensive experience in destination marketing to spotlight Washington, DC’s unique attributes for business events. Tara, a destination expert, has played a crucial role in positioning DC on the global meetings stage through initiatives like “Connected Capital” and “Connected Community.” Her strategic efforts focus on attracting international meetings and global business events to Washington, DC. Tara, who rejoined DDC in 2017, now leads global event sales, marketing, business development, and strategic programs. Her career trajectory includes roles at a global association management company and a leading destination management company in Washington, DC. Tara is dedicated to promoting the benefits and impact of international meetings, aligning associations with legacy projects that impact local communities.
Tara Miller looks forward to expanding international meetings and collaborating closely with clients to maximize the value and impact of their events in the nation’s capital.
