Greater Victoria’s highly anticipated culinary extravaganza, Dine Around and Stay in Town, has commenced, offering residents a unique opportunity to bolster the local hospitality industry. The event, running until February 11, presents a delectable showcase featuring over 45 of Greater Victoria’s premier restaurants. These establishments offer enticing set-price, three-course menus ranging from $25 to $65 per person, enticing patrons to indulge in exquisite dining experiences.
In an effort to combat the traditionally sluggish month of January for the visitor economy in Greater Victoria, the Dine Around and Stay in Town initiative strives to invigorate business for local restaurants and hotels. Peter DeBruyn, Chair of the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association – Victoria Branch, expressed the event’s significance, emphasizing the need for community support during this challenging period.
The program’s two-decade legacy has brought together food enthusiasts and highlighted the culinary prowess of the region’s top chefs. DeBruyn encourages everyone to partake in this gastronomic celebration, showcasing solidarity with the local culinary scene.
To mark the commencement of festivities, last night’s gala at the Victoria Conference Centre was a resounding success, attracting approximately 550 attendees. The event featured delectable bites, refreshing beverages, lively entertainment, and created an atmosphere of anticipation for the upcoming culinary experiences. In a commendable gesture of support for local businesses, the net proceeds from the gala will be shared with participating restaurants, providing a much-needed boost during the off-peak months.
Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria, underscores the pivotal role of events like Dine Around and Stay in Town in sustaining the visitor economy during slower periods. As the 20th anniversary of the event is celebrated this year, Nursey acknowledges the enduring impact of such initiatives on the community and expresses optimism for continued support of local businesses and the tourism industry.
