Disney Cruise Line is making a bold statement about its future in San Diego, as it has officially extended its homeport agreement with the Port of San Diego through 2031. This new agreement is set to double the number of Disney cruises departing from the city each year. With this extension, Disney is projected to welcome over one million passengers to the Port of San Diego during the agreement’s duration.

The extension is a key part of Disney’s strategy to deepen its presence on the West Coast, and it solidifies the Port of San Diego as a primary hub for Disney Cruise Line operations. This deal will also give Disney priority access to the North and South berths at the Port’s B Street Cruise Terminal, providing space for the growing number of Disney Cruise sailings.

Jose Fernandez, Vice President of Port Strategy, Development & Operations at Disney Cruise Line, shared his excitement about the new deal: “San Diego has been an important part of our West Coast operations for more than a decade, and a place our guests love sailing from. This new agreement supports our long-term growth and helps us continue contributing to the region’s economy.”

This landmark agreement is noteworthy for another reason as well: it marks the first time in over two decades that a cruise line has committed to providing a minimum annual guarantee to the Port. This guarantee assures that the agreement will continue to provide a substantial economic benefit to the San Diego area, injecting millions of dollars into the local economy and attracting thousands of visitors each year. The Port of San Diego highlighted that the cruise industry is crucial to its economy, with Disney’s extended presence enhancing business operations and helping local businesses, hotels, and other industries thrive.

Ann Moore, the Chair of the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, mentioned that the deal would have a positive ripple effect on the region. She explained that the agreement would not only enhance business operations between the Port, Disney, and their cruise line partners but also support a thriving cruise industry. According to her, this would inject millions into the region’s economy and bring thousands of visitors to the waterfront each year.

The new agreement means that the Port of San Diego will be home to two Disney ships during the 2026-2027 cruise season. The Disney Magic will arrive in October 2026 and offer a variety of three- to seven-night sailings throughout November, including a special 14-night Panama Canal transit to Galveston, Texas. Disney fans can look forward to the Magic’s iconic voyages, including new adventures for families.

Simultaneously, the Disney Wonder will be based in San Diego from October 2026 through April 2027. This ship will offer three- to seven-night itineraries to destinations like Catalina Island, Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, and Puerto Vallarta. After a successful winter season in Australia and New Zealand, the Disney Wonder will return to the West Coast, bringing its famous family-friendly sailings to San Diego.

This deal is an integral part of Disney Cruise Line’s broader expansion plans for the region, as the company seeks to strengthen its position on the West Coast. San Diego, with its attractive location and easy access to other Southern California attractions like Disneyland, has become a favored departure port for Disney Cruise Line. Families looking to combine a Disney Cruise with a visit to the iconic theme park will find the city’s location an ideal starting point for their vacation.

For the Port of San Diego, this agreement is a major milestone, reinforcing its standing as a vital hub for cruise operations and tourism in the region. The port’s partnership with Disney Cruise Line means more ships, more itineraries, and greater economic impact, providing long-term growth opportunities for San Diego’s local economy.

As the cruise industry continues to recover from the global pandemic, the extended partnership between Disney Cruise Line and the Port of San Diego represents a bright future for the local cruise sector. This agreement is a testament to the growing demand for Disney cruises and the importance of the Port of San Diego in meeting that demand.

By 2031, San Diego will have become an even more integral part of Disney Cruise Line’s operations, with the city set to welcome thousands of passengers each year. The partnership is not just about Disney’s growth, but about San Diego’s continued evolution as a global cruise hub, enhancing the city’s status as a destination in itself.

Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 season, travelers will have even more opportunities to experience the magic of Disney at sea, all while exploring the stunning West Coast destinations that make San Diego a gateway to unforgettable adventures. Whether it’s a short getaway to Catalina Island or a longer voyage to the wonders of Puerto Vallarta, San Diego remains at the heart of Disney Cruise Line’s West Coast operations.
