As the Year of the Dragon approaches, the Shanghai Disney Resort has kicked off its seasonal tradition of philanthropy during the Spring Festival, dedicating efforts to support valuable initiatives in the local community and beyond. A team of Disney VoluntEARS, including staff, Imagineers, and leaders from the resort, have dedicated their efforts over recent weeks to distribute over 6,000 Disney stuffed animals to pediatric hospitals and a senior care facility locally, and have inaugurated two new Disney Fun Houses in towns close to Shanghai, bringing joy and enchantment to those in need.

“At Shanghai Disney Resort we are committed to giving back to our community,” said Murray King, Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Shanghai Disney Resort. “The Spring Festival is a time to share kindness and show compassion, and we hope that through our community volunteer efforts we can entertain and inspire members of the community while promoting local traditions.”

The tradition of assembling gift bags for the community is a highlight of the season at Shanghai Disney Resort, eagerly anticipated as the Spring Festival draws near. This year, over 50 Disney VoluntEARS came together in a celebratory mood to prepare hundreds of gift bags filled with Disney merchandise. By the end of January, they had assembled over 6,000 Disney stuffed toys, which were then given out to children across 18 pediatric hospitals in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui, the Shanghai Children’s Home, and to the elderly at a care home in Huinan Town, Pudong New Area.

A cornerstone of the resort’s social responsibility efforts is the gift of Disney Fun Houses to children’s hospitals, creating a comforting and fun space for young patients. Since 2016, The Walt Disney Company China together with Shanghai Disney Resort have established over 40 Disney Fun Houses in hospitals across Shanghai and the Chinese Mainland. By the end of January 2024, two additional Disney Fun Houses were launched at the Chuzhou Children’s Hospital in Anhui province and at the Yangzhou Women and Children’s Hospital in Jiangsu province, offering moments of happiness and wonder to young patients and their families.

With more Disney Fun Houses on the horizon, alongside various other initiatives and Disney VoluntEARS engagements with hospitals and community centers, the culture of generosity and holiday spirit is set to continue throughout the Year of the Dragon and further.
