During a storm, a Norwegian ship loses its ability to navigate the North Sea

The Norwegian ship that goes by the name of MS Maud underwent a power outage. It happened when, while the ship was sailing in the North Sea, a rogue wave broke windows on the bridge, impairing the navigational capabilities of the ship.

Following that unbalanced incident, 266 passengers and 131 crew members were reportedly declared safe by the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Center, according to media reports.

A spokesperson for the Centre told the media that this happened due to a power failure on the ship. While the primary engine was operating, the radars and navigation systems went haywire.

Strong winds smashed windows on the ship’s bridge, allowing water to enter and causing a power outage. The ship was sailing about 200 kilometers (120 miles) off the coast of Denmark and about 330 kilometers off the coast of Britain.

Arriving in Tilbury, UK, on Friday, the ship, owned by Hurtigruten Group, a division of HX, a Norwegian cruise company, departed from Floroe, Norway, on Thursday.

The engine room is currently used to manually steer the ship, but it is not capable of navigation. In order to aid the ship in navigating until it could be towed to port, support vessels from Esvagt had arrived.

The rescue centre went on to say that there was no need for an evacuation because the ship was not in danger. 

The region was struck by a storm late on Thursday, and it was predicted that Friday would bring hurricane-force gusts out of the northwest.
