easyJet has officially placed a firm order for an additional 157 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, following the green light from its shareholders. This substantial order encompasses 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo planes and also involves the conversion of an existing order for 35 A320neo aircraft into the larger A321neo model. This strategic move forms a crucial part of easyJet’s overarching plan to modernize and upscale its fleet while making significant strides in enhancing its sustainability efforts.

Johan Lundgren, the CEO of easyJet, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “We are delighted to confirm this substantial order, which not only facilitates easyJet’s transition to more fuel-efficient aircraft, a key element of our net-zero emissions roadmap but also provides us with the flexibility for disciplined expansion, including the exciting potential of upgauging.” Lundgren emphasized that this order solidifies easyJet’s prominent position at major European airports, and he looks forward to a fruitful partnership with Airbus in the years ahead.

Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International at Airbus, shared his delight, saying, “Airbus is thrilled to support easyJet in its fleet expansion and renewal journey. EasyJet’s Airbus fleet allows the airline to stand out in a competitive market with cutting-edge, modern, and passenger-friendly aircraft.” Scherer highlighted the shared commitment of easyJet and Airbus to promoting sustainability in the aviation sector, emphasizing that this substantial investment in highly fuel-efficient and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)-capable aircraft underscores their dedication to this cause.

The A320neo Family remains the world’s most sought-after single-aisle aircraft, boasting more than 18,000 orders from nearly 140 customers worldwide. Among these, the A321neo stands as the largest member of Airbus’ A320neo Family, offering unmatched range and performance. Equipped with next-generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo achieves a 50% reduction in noise, over 20% fuel savings, and reduced CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation single-aisle planes. Furthermore, it maximizes passenger comfort within the broadest single-aisle cabin in the industry. Airbus, in line with its commitment to sustainability, ensures that the entire A320 Family can operate with up to 50% SAF, with a goal to reach 100% SAF capability across its entire fleet by 2030.

With more than 5,600 A321neos ordered by over 100 global customers to date, the aircraft continues to enjoy immense popularity in the aviation industry.
