During the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities introduced a digital tourism ‘fawazeer’ (‘riddles’) competition with the aim to promote Egyptian tourist destinations as well as increase awareness regarding tourism and archaeology.
The competition is targeted to provide people with miscellaneous tourist and archaeological details. Lamia Kamel, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said that this competition features publishing 15 riddles all through the holy month of Ramadan.
The competition has sessions where questions about customs practiced all through the holy month are asked, also, how Egyptians observe it to protect these ancient customs and during the month, draws attention to the distinguished atmosphere within the country and draw tourists to take part in the festivities.
For three winners, the prize will be a weeklong tourist trip during the summer months to Hurghada and Sahl Hasheesh.
Ramadan generates its own forms of nostalgia just like the holiday season in the West. The riddles are an old, loved tradition that started in the 1960s Egyptian radio and then soon moved onto television.
