The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) acts as a worldwide hub and repository for the international association and governmental meetings industry. It provides access to data, educational resources, communication platforms, along with opportunities for business growth and networking within the global meetings industry.

Te Pae Christchurch Director of Business Development, Gillian Officer says “I am incredibly proud of this achievement for Erwin. He works incredibly hard to source lead-opportunities for Te Pae Christchurch; is well connected within the ICCA community and has made a significant impact in a short space of time. We’re off to an amazing start here at Te Pae Christchurch, achieving results in our first 18 months of operation that we were not expecting to achieve until year 10, and Erwin’s abilities as a researcher to generate quality leads for our team has been invaluable to this result”.

This year, ICCA is delighted to honor Erwin Matheeuwsen with the title of “ICCA Researcher of the Year 2023”. In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Erwin will be awarded a certificate and a €500 reward, which can be applied towards any ICCA service or product.

The selection panel at ICCA praised Erwin for his exemplary contribution to enriching the ICCA database with high-quality meetings information. They are optimistic that his achievements will motivate other ICCA members to maximize the use of the database and its update features.

Erwin expressed his excitement about receiving this prestigious award, highlighting the significance of the ICCA Business Intelligence system as an invaluable tool for identifying promising international association conferences, especially those suitable for New Zealand. He emphasized that the collective input of meeting data into the ICCA system amplifies the value of this information, fostering superior hosting opportunities across the board.

Erwin intends to invest his award money in attending the forthcoming ICCA Skills Course, set to take place in Christchurch, New Zealand, from September 10 to 12, 2024. This event, supported by Tourism New Zealand Business Events and ChristchurchNZ and hosted at Te Pae Christchurch, is recognized for its excellence. Erwin is keen on participating in this three-day course to enhance his skills and connect with peers in the industry.
