At the Dubai Airshow, Ethiopian Airlines Group, the biggest airline in Africa and a well-known global brand in aviation, created history by signing contracts to buy an astounding 84 aircraft. The agreements with major players in the industry, Rolls-Royce, Airbus, and Boeing, position Ethiopian Airlines for significant fleet growth and technological improvement.

Ethiopian Airlines has signed contracts with Boeing for 11 787 Dreamliners and 20 737 MAX aircraft, with the option to purchase an additional 15 and 21 planes, respectively, in light of this calculated strategic move. The agreement with Boeing alone represents a considerable investment of USD 23 billion at the list price of 67 aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines has also committed to buying 11 more Airbus A350-900s, with an extra six aircraft option.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also inked with Rolls-Royce for a comprehensive Total Care service agreement covering 22 Trent XWB-84 engines, which exclusively power the Airbus A350-900 fleet. This step demonstrates Ethiopian Airlines’ dedication to operational excellence and passenger happiness.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed satisfaction with the agreements, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to environmental sustainability, operational reliability, and customer satisfaction. He went on to say, “This procurement aligns with our long-term strategy for maintaining and expanding our fleet.” Furthermore, he expressed delight in the addition of state-of-the-art aircraft to their fleet, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable onboard experience for their illustrious passengers while also reducing their carbon footprint.

Ethiopian Airlines, which now operates over 140 modern aircraft across 133 routes, aims to meet its strategic objectives by 2035. The agreements reached at the Dubai Airshow not only represent a key step toward this objective but also reaffirm Ethiopian Airlines’ status as a leading global carrier.
