Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has won the GreenKey award for the third time. GreenKey recognizes a property’s commitment to sustainable, environmentally responsible operations for each successive year. Novotel Hyderabad’s recognition demonstrates the measures taken to incorporate pollution control initiatives in their services and guest accommodations, along with infrastructure.
GreenKey is a globally recognised eco-certification programme that acknowledges tourism and hospitality establishments for meeting strict standards in environmental management and sustainable operations. In India, the programme is administered by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Ahmedabad, which is a full member of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
Over the years, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC has established itself as a leading example of sustainable MICE hospitality in Hyderabad. The property continues to integrate environmental responsibility into conferences, conventions, corporate meetings, weddings and large-scale events. With its extensive convention facilities and focus on responsible operations, the venue demonstrates that large-scale hospitality can successfully balance business needs with environmental sustainability.
The latest GreenKey certification recognises the property’s continued efforts to minimise its environmental impact through measurable and practical initiatives. These include resource conservation, waste management improvements, reduction of single-use plastics and the adoption of energy-efficient systems. The property’s commitment has strengthened its reputation as an environmentally conscious destination for event organisers, corporate guests and travellers seeking sustainable experiences.
A key sustainability initiative at Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC is the introduction of remineralised premium atmospheric drinking water, served in reusable glass bottles across guest rooms. This initiative helps reduce reliance on conventional single-use plastic water bottles while offering guests a sustainable alternative.
The property’s extensive green landscapes also play an important role in supporting its environmental goals. The gardens and open spaces enhance biodiversity, improve the guest environment and create a more nature-friendly setting within the hospitality space. Responsible resource management and reducing plastic consumption remain central to the property’s long-term sustainability strategy.
Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC has introduced several innovative solutions to further reduce its carbon footprint. The property uses O2 atmospheric water generation technology, which captures moisture from the air and converts it into drinking water, reducing dependence on packaged water. It has also replaced diesel boilers with LPG-based systems, introduced biodegradable pens and utensils, and expanded the use of reusable materials across operations.
One of the property’s most significant sustainability achievements is its large-scale solar power installation. The landmark system includes 1,818 solar panels spread across 48,904 square feet, with a total capacity of 1,000 KWp. The solar plant generates around 4,000 units of electricity every day and supports nearly 50% of HICC’s energy requirements. The initiative also helps reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 1,022 tonnes annually.
Through continued investments in renewable energy, responsible water management, waste reduction and eco-friendly practices, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC continues to strengthen its position as a sustainable hospitality leader while setting new benchmarks for environmentally conscious MICE destinations in India.
Commenting on the achievement, Rubin Cherian, General Manager, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC, said, “Receiving the GreenKey certification for the third consecutive time is a meaningful recognition of our continued efforts towards responsible hospitality. Sustainability for us is an ongoing commitment, reflected in the everyday choices we make across our operations. As a MICE-focused property, we recognise the importance of creating experiences and hosting large-scale events in a manner that is mindful of our environmental impact. This recognition encourages us to build further on these practices and continue creating experiences that are responsible towards our environment and community.”
With its third consecutive GreenKey certification, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC further reinforces its reputation as a sustainable hospitality and MICE destination in Hyderabad. The property continues to expand its environmental initiatives by adopting responsible practices across its operations, while creating a balance between sustainability goals and the evolving expectations of guests, event planners and stakeholders.
