Joe Ponte has been appointed as the managing director of Explore and will take up the new role on June 18.He has earlier successfully worked with Flight Centre Group which spanned ten years over two stints.
In his most recent role he had the responsibility of overseeing the development of the Topdeck touring business globally along with a team of 150 staff across different vertical like sales, marketing, product, operations and finance.
The Topdeck brand in the Asia-Pacific region was led by Ponte before relocating to London. Here, he propelled the double-digit volume growth, working with business-to-business partners to increase sales as well as improving direct distribution.
He served as general manager, sales and marketing for the Insider Journeys brand (formerly Travel IndoChina) before this. Here, he brought a more customer and online content-focused approach to the operation.
He graduated in business and marketing and started on the phones at Flight Centre where he was promoted to become marketing manager for their main business in Australia.
Paul Carter, Hotelplan UK chief executive was delighted to welcome Joe at such an exciting time for Explore. He said that Joe is an experienced individual with an enthusiasm for adventure travel.
He was looking forward to work with him and everyone at Explore to further enhance the customer proposition and increase demand for their amazing travel experiences, both in the UK through new agency partnerships and internationally.
He thanked John Telfer for his solid leadership in steering the business over the past six months during his interim role as managing director.
