The 2024 edition of the Taste of Iceland festival, brought to you by Inspired by Iceland, is making its way back to Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9. This cultural extravaganza pays homage to Iceland’s rich heritage, offering a series of citywide events that highlight the finest aspects of Icelandic culture. Attendees will be treated to an immersive experience featuring Icelandic cuisine and drinks, music, natural beauty, literature, art, design, wellness, and more.
The festival is a showcase of Icelandic traditions and culture, aiming to bridge connections with North American audiences. In collaboration with local enterprises and Taste of Iceland’s esteemed partners, a variety of featured events will take place at notable venues such as Brasserie Beck, Eaton DC, Mind Your Body Oasis, Old School Hardware, Songbyrd, and Wild Days.
Access to most events is complimentary, with the public invited to partake freely. However, to ensure entry, event tickets are necessary and prompt arrival is recommended. Ticket availability and reservations for the special Icelandic dinner can be made through the Taste of Iceland Website.
Festival Highlights
- Icelandic Culinary Experience at Brasserie Beck: From 4:00 PM to 9:45 PM, chefs Brian McBride of Brasserie Beck and Bjarki Snær Thorsteinsson from Iceland’s National Culinary Team will curate a special menu inspired by Icelandic tastes, featuring seafood, lamb, and skyr. - Wheel of Prizes by Icelandair: Attendees can win various prizes, including a trip to Iceland, at different festival events. For more details on participation and schedule, visit the official website.
- Sustainable Design Exhibition – Pizza Time with Flétta and Ýrúrarí: Engage in an interactive display of Iceland’s dedication to sustainable design with a unique wool pizza parlor concept, first introduced at DesignMarch 2023. This event takes place at 4:00 PM at Old School Hardware.
- Reyka Vodka Cocktail Class: Join this engaging session at 5:00 PM at Wild Days to learn cocktail-making with an Icelandic twist. Attendance is restricted to those 21 and over with valid ID.
- Elemental Sound Bath and Wellness: Experience tranquility with Jósa Goodlife at 11:00 AM at Mind Your Body Oasis, followed by a visit to the Icelandic Provisions Skyr Bar.
- Icelandic Literature Insight: Gain perspectives from crime fiction luminaries Ragnar Jónasson and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir at 1:00 PM at Eaton DC, Beverly Snow.
- Culinary Masterclass: Chefs Haflidi Halldorsson and Bjarki Snær Thorsteinsson will guide participants through Icelandic culinary staples at 2:00 PM at Brasserie Beck.
- Icelandia Presents: Geology with Helga: Explore Iceland’s geological wonders with volcanologist Helga Kristin Torfadottir at 3:00 PM at Eaton DC.
- Reykjavik Presents: Iceland Airwaves Off-Venue: Enjoy an evening of Icelandic music from 7:00 PM at Songbyrd, featuring artists Axel Flóvent, JFDR, and GRÓA.
The Taste of Iceland is a yearly festival that brings Iceland’s dynamic culture to the forefront. Organized by Inspired by Iceland, the festival enjoys the support of various partners, including Icelandair and Visit Reykjavík, among others. Future events in 2024 will also be held in Denver, New York, and Seattle.
